Whole systems, not pieces of them
A champagne estate selling direct and a German federal procurement marketplace are the same job at different scale: someone has to own the architecture, the code, the deployment and the consequences. Most projects buy those from four suppliers. I build all of them.
What usually brings people heređź”—
The site is four systems pretending to be one. A shop, a CMS, an analytics layer and a stock file that disagree with each other, each bought from a different supplier, none of them responsible for the others.
The demo worked and the production version does not. Retrieval that was convincing on ten documents, an agent that cannot say what it did, a model that exists on one cloud and not on the one the contract requires.
The platform outgrew the people who run it. The infrastructure is now the constraint, and the team is learning it from blog posts at the same time as they are operating it.

I am a freelance engineer in Berlin. I build commerce and campaign sites, data platforms and AI systems that have to work rather than demo, and I train the teams that will run them.
